BioWare Learned a Valuable Lesson From Anthem's Failure
Dragon Age Director Reveals the Importance of Focusing on Core Gameplay
In a recent interview with Edge magazine, Dragon Age's director revealed that BioWare has taken valuable lessons from the critically-panned Anthem. The studio had initially planned to overhaul Anthem's core gameplay in 2020, but development was halted in 2021. This experience taught BioWare the importance of playing to its strengths, according to the Dragon Age director.
Patrick Weekes, a veteran of Mass Effect and Dragon Age with 15 years of experience at BioWare, defended the work the studio has done since Dragon Age: Inquisition. He stated that the studio was given an incredible opportunity to explore and test different ideas after Inquisition's launch.
Dragon Age's New Name and Creative Direction
BioWare recently announced that Dragon Age: Dreadwolf has been renamed Dragon Age: Absolution. Creative director John Epler and creative performance director Ashley Barlow explained that the name change reflects the game's more personal and introspective narrative.
